How to Make Rice Krispie Treats

These embellished rice crispy treats are delicious and easy to make. You can use store bought rice crispy treats or make your own at home. The beauty of rice crispy treats is that they only take a few ingredients and a few minutes of your time in the kitchen to make them.

With just a few more ingredients you can make these adorable fish themed rice crispy treats that will bring a smile to the face of everyone that you serve them to.

Traditional rice crispy treats are given a makeover by dipping them in melted chocolate, and adding a few special ingredients to make them look like a scene underwater.

All you need to do is add a few goldfish snack crackers and sprinkles on top of the chocolate and your amazing underwater rice crispy treats are complete. Here are the ingredients and directions that you will need to make these adorable fish themed rice crispy treats.

Equipment:

  • Microwave safe bowl
  • Paper straws
  • Parchment lined baking sheet

If you’re feeling ambitious and want to make homemade rice krispie treats, you’ll want to make them the day before or let them cool completely and maybe spend a little time in the fridge to get the consistency you need to dip them.

If you’re wondering how to make rice krispie treat pops, the answer is with decorative paper straws, of course! Make sure to add the straw to the rice crispy treat after they are completely cooled.

Now that you have the rice treats figured out, it’s time to melt blue candy melts for dipping. If you can’t find blue melts, white candy melts with a bit of food coloring works great too.

Dip the whole treat into the melted icing using the paper straw to hold onto. Sprinkle your sprinkles onto the treats, place a goldfish cracker or two on the treat before they cool, then set the decorated treats on a parchment lined cookie sheet to cool.

Goldfish Cracker Rice Krispie Treat Tips

Using a parchment lined baking sheet works well so that you can move the treats around while they dry.

Because the treats will set up on parchment paper, I would not recommend dipping the entire krispy treat into the candy melts. The excess tends to run off and make a thick coating of chocolate sticking on the sides of the treat if you use too much.

Make sure you don’t overheat or burn the chocolate candy melts.

Instead of trying to color the melted chocolate, purchase candy melts in your color for best results

Any left-over chocolate melts can be poured into a Ziplock bag immediately after use. Lay the bag flat and let  the chocolate harden. Then store it the ziptop bag to reuse it. You’ll melt it like you did originally.

This is just a quick overview of the recipe. Get the full step-by-step recipe on the card below.

These goldfish cracker rice krispie pops only take a few minutes to make, regardless of whether you use store bought or homemade rice crispy treats. Surprise your kids with a special afternoon treat and sit down to watch your favorite under the sea movie while you share them.
